In case you lot didn't already know, this campus bleeds regal and gold. So go your wardrobe prepare. On Fridays, especially, we article of clothing purple.

We are the Dukes and our beloved mascot is Duke Canis familiaris. The proper name comes from past president, Samuel Folio Duke. And if you lot'd like to go your photo with the mascot, you've got three options:

A typical JMU game twenty-four hour period

A beautiful place to learn

A number of historical landmarks make our campus unique and special. Here are a few highlights.

The Quad

The oldest spot on campus is covered in greenish, lined with Bluestone buildings and capped by Wilson Hall. The Quad has been a pop gathering space for more than 110 years. The best days are filled with lush grass, bright sun and bustling students.

James Madison

Affectionately nicknamed "Niggling Jimmy," this favorite statue for photos recognizes our namesake and Father of the Constitution, James Madison. You'll notice the statue is perfect to calibration – 5' 4" – the exact top of our nation's fourth president.

Spirit Rock

Installed by The Madison Society, the Spirit Rock is a sail to any artist on campus. Depending on the day, you might see an event beingness advertised or perhaps an inspirational quote. The rock is covered in layers of paint from years of expression.

Seal on the quad

Don't pace on the seal! This landmark, inscribed with JMU'due south Alma Mater, is embedded in the sidewalk leading up to Wilson Hall. Students walk around the seal as a sign of love and respect for their Alma Mater.

Big Jimmy

On the other side of campus, "Large Jimmy" stands in front end of the ISAT building with a quill in one paw and drafted U.South. Constitution in the other. This larger than life depiction of Madison was donated to the university in 2008, during the Centennial Celebration.

Duke Dog Statue

Guarding the outside of Bridgeforth Stadium and Newman Lake, the Knuckles Dog statue greets fans every twenty-four hours. A miniature version of this statue fifty-fifty travels around the country to alumni events and weddings.
